Explaining my answer to Jess was really helpful, as her response made me think about what I would like my final piece to communicate. When telling her that minimalism is the best way to define yourself and be happy, she disagreed and said that she doesn’t live a materialistic lifestyle, but the possessions she owns make her happy and getting rid of them would make her less happy. I had the same view as Jess before my research, however I now realise that anyone can be a minimalist by simply minimising the possessions they own and thinking before buying new possessions. I think that as long as you can justify an object and state it’s purpose in your life, there is no problem with keeping it. I would now like to focus my research and development on minimalism, as this will enable me to direct my project towards a final piece.
